Australia 1770-1970 James Cook Bicentennial Token

This token was issued by Victoria's Local Government in 1970 to celebrate 200 years since Captain James Cook landed in Australia.

It is quite a rare piece from this era and we have never seen another on offer although they probably do exist somewhere.

It is reasonable condition which you can judge for yourself by the pictures.

The reverse of the token depicts H.M. Bark Endeavour off Point Hicks.

A fascinating item for any serious collector of Australiana.

Cook was the first to map Newfoundland prior to making three voyages to the Pacific Ocean during which he achieved the first European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia and the Hawaiin Islands as well as the first recorded circumnavigation of New Zealand. Cook died in Hawaii in a fight with local natives during his third exploratory voyage in the Pacific in 1779.

Aluminium token or medal

About the same size as the original round fifty cents piece from Australia.
