History

Following the end of World War I in 1919 the German people had were governed by a federal republic as well as a semi-presidential representative democracy.

This was done to replace the Imperial Government or German Empire as it was mainly referred to.

Historians of this period adopted another name for the ruling body and named it, The Weimar Republic, named after the town  where the constitutional assembly was held.

This name held for some time and even well into the Nazi era despite the Nazi’s renaming it the Deutsches Reich which was an attempt to reset the name back to the Imperial / German Empire period before 1919.

The Weimar Republic was very successful at reforms despite the hyperinflation. they reformed the currency, wrote coherent taxation policies and even repaired the rail infrastructure to get Germany moving again.

The beginning of the period which was officially and historically recorded as the start of Nazi Germany also marked the passing of the Weimar Republic.
