This official transport voucher for 10 Pfennig was issued during the beginning period of hyperinflation in the City of Darmstadt in Hessen, Germany.

This is in German known as a Amtliche Verkehrsausgaben or Official Transport Expenditure.

There were areas with Germany that issued a profusion of notgeld or emergency money but from this city there were not so many and good examples are hard to find.

A great chance to own one of your own and fill that collection with the harder to find items.

History

Darmstadt is a modern city that is located 40 km south of Frankfurt in the state of Hessen.

It is a city of arts and sciences and is the birthplace of Jungendstil or Art Nouveau. Bauhaus is another arts title that was grounded in the city.

The Technical University is recognized as one of the best world wide for science graduates. It was where Dr. Hermann Steuding working with Wernher von Braun researched a lot of the science that went into the Peenemünde Military Test Site which launched the first missile into space in 1942. The V2 rockets that terrified western Europe were a part of this program. It is thereby quite fitting that Darmstadt is also the home of ESA (European Space Agency), ESOC (European Space Operations Centre) and EUMETSAT (European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites).

GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research in Darmstadt even boasts its own particle accelerator or Synchrotron with a 271 m circumference where they recently added a new element to the period table.  In 2011 three new elements were approved for addition to the periodic table by General Assembly of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, these were darmstadtium (Ds), roentgenium (Rg) and copernicium (Cn).

Darmstadt today is the home for a wide array of technology companies which include Deutsche Telekom and Merck KGaA the pharmaceutical giant as well as the space agencies listed above.
