10 consecutive serial numbers

For sale in this listing is a superb run of 10 notes from 1937. Each bank note is valued at 2 Rentenmark and each with the 8 digit serial number.

They are in extraordinary uncirculated condition and as a run of ten notes all the more rare and valuable as a collectors item.

Finding single notes is not so difficult but a run of ten from this period is almost unheard of. A very rare item on this account.

Clearly this run of notes is a must have for serious collectors of this period of currency.

History

Rentenmark was the new currency issued from 15 October 1923 in a bid to halt the hyperinflation that had ravaged the Weimar German economy of 1922 and 1923. The Rentenmark as a unit of currency was subdivided in 100 Rentenpfennig. It was the replacement currency for the Papiermark which no longer had a justifiable value given that there was no gold left in the economy to back it.

Rentenmark notes were kept in circulation up until 1948. It was replaced then by the East German mark which was a response to the uncertainty of the situation in the Trizone which would be known as West Germany later on.  It was then changed yet again to the Deutsche Mark in a bid to halt yet another wave of hyperinflation and also to control illicit trade in the black market and bartering.
