The Lot: in words by Michael Leunig is a wonderful offering by Australia’s foremost cartoonist and philosophical author.  As with all things in Leunig’s world whether it be hypocrisy, social conventions, military insanity or simply the human plight in times of political misdirection, he always manages to find the funny side of it all and offers a key to help you uplift your spirits and revise your former notions. He is to coin a phrase, “an original thinker”, in all aspects.

The Lot In Words is surely one of Leunig’s largest publications at 336 pages. It makes for an engrossing read and is actually very hard to put down and in fact, hard not to pick up, again and again.

This volume is in as new condition and the the pictures here are the cover of the actual book for sale.

The Lot has several  pieces which have been previously published in The Age from Melbourne as a segment of Leunig’s column, ‘Curly World’.

History

A selection of real life quotes by Michael Leunig.

“Humans are nervous, touchy creatures and can be easily offended. Many are deeply insecure. They become focused and energized by taking offence; it makes them feel meaningful and alive.” – Michael Leunig

“The insatiable need for heartless power and ruthless control is the telltale sign of an uninitiated man – the most irresponsible, incompetent and destructive force on earth.” – Michael Leunig

“Two’s company and three’s a crowd, but seven can be an uprising. And the seven can become 70 or 700 or 7000 very quickly if the sense of being wronged is felt broadly and truly enough.” – Michael Leunig

“I have not much love for the bright lights – unless it’s the sun creeping up over the horizon.” – Michael Leunig

“Perhaps life is actually more confusing and unknowable to an adult than a child, but grown-ups have learned to deceive themselves and act as if they understand what’s going on; and some are elected to high office on the basis of their ability to create this impression.” – Michael Leunig

“There is a central flaw in contemporary culture and a corresponding and related inability to address it. Society seems somehow unable to adequately help or protect itself. Normal citizens feel powerless, isolated and disturbed.” – Michael Leunig
