A middle grade example of this series of 500 Mark credit notes or Gütschein issued by the City of Bamberg in 1922.
The note has folds and some light soiling. No tears or pin holes are present however.  The note is a great collection filler and for sale at a very reasonable price.

History
Bamberg is not only notable as a city where a vast number of U.S., troops were stationed after the war years, it is also home to one of Germany’s brewing oddities, smoked beer or Bamberg Rauchbier. It is a highly distinctive tasting beer.  The beer itself is made by taking malted barley and roasting it over a flame to impart the smoke flavors. Schlenkerla is probably the best known brand on the market for this flavor.  Beech wood is the preferred timber to get the required taste although oak has also been used..
For centuries malt was dried over open fires and as the process was improved the smoke was funneled away so as not to leave a smoky flavor. As techniques improved the smoke flavor was all but eliminated. Only in the forced smoking method used today in Bamberg can the taste of a long forgotten brewing art be enjoyed once again.
