This badge was issued to lawn bowls players who took part in the tour or who played against the visiting British team.

No doubt this tour was a part of the celebrations for the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937.

This one was bestowed on an Australian player and has been kept in fabulous condition for the last 70+ years.

It was the last chance these players would have to enjoy the freedom to play overseas for a very long time given the outbreak of World War II in 1939.

This is a timeless piece of sporting memorabilia that is quite uncommon in this condition.

History

Bowls is a sport in which the goal is to roll slightly asymmetric balls, called bowls, closest to a smaller—normally white—bowl called the “jack” or “kitty”. Bowls, either flat- or crown-green, is usually played outdoors, on grass and synthetic surfaces. Flat-green bowls can also be played indoors on synthetic surfaces. Both variants are collectively known as “lawn bowls”.
