2009 Kangaroo One Dollar - Ken Done - Gold Plated
Rare and highly collectible this coin was struck by RAM (Royal Australian Mint) to compliment their internationally famous one dollar Silver Kangaroo series.
Coin comes encapsulated but with out original packaging or COA.
Well known Australian artist including Rolf Harris and Reg Mombassa were asked to design the reverse of the coins in this series.
The one on offer here is by Ken Done who is one one Australia's better known artists and designers.
It is a delightful design that is typical of the style and Australian flavour that Done imparts to all of his artwork.
Ken Done grew up in the western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, and left high school at age 14 to study at the National Art School in East Sydney between 1954 and 1959. At the end of this decade he travelled abroad and began working with the New York and London based advertising agency J. Walter Thompson. He returned to Sydney in 1969 to follow his artistic desires. He became a full time painter in 1975.
