This was the original issue handbook by Reserve Bank of Australia about the designs used on our then new decimal coins and notes.

Published in 1968 the booklet is in very good condition for its age. The inner pages are clean and untarnished.

The back cover has been written on in ink with computations of L.S.D. to dollars and cents.

Apart from this small, if not original flaw, the book is wonderful condition. Truly an historical collectible.

A song was written to get people to think about the change over:

In come the dollars and in come the cents
to replace the pounds and the shillings and the pence.
Be prepared folks when the coins begin to mix
on the 14th of February 1966.

Clink go the cents folks
clink, clink, clink. Changeover day is closer than you think.
Learn the value of the coins and the way that they appear
and things will be much smoother when the decimal point is here.

In come the dollars and in come the cents
to replace the pounds and the shillings and the pence.
Be prepared folks when the coins begin to mix
on the 14th of February 1966.

History

Australia decimalised on 14 February 1966, with the new Australian dollar equivalent to ten shillings or half an Australian pound in the previous currency. Since a shilling became equal to ten cents, the Australian cent was equal to 1.2 Australian pence, although they were usually exchanged on a 1:1 basis during the brief period when both were circulating. It was the first time Australians had used dollars since the early 1800’s when we had Spanish dollars for several years before converting to British coins.A song was written to get people to think about the change over:In come the dollars and in come the centsto replace the pounds and the shillings and the pence.Be prepared folks when the coins begin to mixon the 14th of February 1966.Clink go the cents folksclink, clink, clink.
