2014 Disney Mickey & Friends Minnie Mouse 1oz Silver Proof Coin Niue
Hot on the heels of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck comes yet another red hot favourite with Disney collectors. This coin featuring Minnie Mouse.
Minnie was originally designed in the fashion of a 1920’s "flapper" girl who emerged in the then, very liberal period, of the "Roaring Twenties". Dr. R. Murray-Leslie criticized the craze by commenting "the social butterfly type… the frivolous, scantily-clad, jazzing
flapper, irresponsible and undisciplined, to whom a dance, a new hat, or a man with a car, were of more importance than the fate of nations". Although she has worn many outfits over the years the one depicted on this coin is the most common and includes a short polka-dotted dress with a matching bow and white gloves. Although she always appears in red, she was originally designed to have a blue and green outfit.
The 1929 cartoon The Karnival Kid was somewhat risque for its time when it revealed that she wears black stockings. Her oversized high heeled shoes were her most distinctive article of clothing. When ever she walked or danced, the clip clop of her shoes were usually heard clearly and tended to be in rhythm with the musical soundtrack.
