Celebrating the 3rd Anniversary of Constitution Day. (Verfassungstag)
This listing is for an old original 1922 Deutsches Reich 3 Mark Weimar Republic era coin.
The coin was issued during the hyperinflation period a year or so before the economy collapsed. The coin has an eagle and the date commemorating the Constitution Day or in German “Verfassungstag”. Constitution day (verfassungstag) was 11 August 1919 and this coin marked the third anniversary. Some coins have the verfassungstag annotation, some do not. This one does however. In 1924 after the end of hyperinflation the coins were made in silver.
It is in reasonable condition around VF grade as per the pictures provided and is a fascinating numismatic given the aluminum. Metal was at a premium during this period of history in Germany and aluminum was a cost effective alternative.

History
A curious fact surrounding the Verfassungstag or Constitution Day was that it was a true National Day but it was never assigned as a legal holiday. As a result the holiday was abandoned in 1921. Each state was given the choice as to whether or not it would be accorded a public holiday.
In the People’s State of Hessen and in the Republic of Baden the holiday status was observed but just next door in the free state of Bavaria it was not.
To this day different states have different holidays that they observe. Depending on the federal state you live in, there are between 9 and 13 public holidays in Germany every year. These public holidays in Germany include national holidays, of which there are only two, as well as religious holidays and secularized holidays with a religious background.
