Noteworthy Collectibles is very proud to offer this beautiful 2 coin set to mark the 50th Anniversary of Australian decimal currency.
This is an extremely limited offer and the coin sets themselves sold out within days from the mint. With only 2,000 set worldwide, it is little wonder.
On 14 February 1966, Australia introduced decimal notes and coins to its currency bring to an end the British currency system of pounds sterling.
People were fascinated as the first coins arrived in circulation bearing the familiar images of Australian native animals.
Perth Mint has captured these historical decimal currency coin designs perfectly in this two coin set with the designs of the original 1 and 2 cent coins. The Frill Necked Lizard and the Feather tail Glider are reproduced in large scale on these perfectly struck silver coins.
Each coin is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.
The reverse of the 1oz silver replica 2 cent coin features the frilled neck lizard design from the original 2 cent coin introduced in 1966. The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mint mark also appears in the design.
The reverse of the 1oz silver replica 1 cent coin features the feather tail glider design from the original 1 cent coin introduced in 1966. The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mint mark also appears in the design.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, the coin’s weight and fineness, and the 2016 year-date are shown on each coin’s obverse.
No more than 2,000 of the 50th Anniversary of Australian Decimal Currency 2016 1oz Silver Proof Two-Coin Set will be released by The Perth Mint.
