Situated astride the Weser river in north eastern Germany is the harbor city of Bremen.  It lies inland by some 60 kilometers from the North Sea and it is a major shipping port. It is a sizeable city spanning 38 x 16 kilometers and is divided into five boroughs. It boasts a population of over half a million inhabitants and is listed as being the tenth largest city in the country. It forms a part of the Metropolitan Region Bremen / Oldenburg.  Bremen and Bremerhaven make up its two main districts.
The port covers 8 sq km and is a major player in foreign trade. Most of the shipping goes through Bremerhaven. Meat, dairy products and fish are a large part of the exports.  The city itself Bremen is home to a range of industries including electronics, steel, automotive products and food.  the largest employer in the city is Daimler AG making Mercedes Benz C-Class, and the SL roadster coupe. Train manufacturing is another aspect of its over all infrastructure with Deutsche Bah being a major local industry.
The statue of Roland and the City Hall in the city Centre are both listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
